UTILITY TOOLS

Base64 Encode / Decode

Encode text or files and decode Base64 back to text or files directly in your browser.

Your text and files stay in your browser and are not uploaded to WCODX.

Input

Output

How to encode text to Base64

Enter text and choose Encode to Base64. WCODX uses UTF-8-safe browser APIs, so Unicode text can be encoded without corrupting non-Latin characters.

How to decode Base64

Paste padded or safely unpadded Base64 and choose Decode from Base64. Data URLs with a valid Base64 prefix are recognized automatically.

How to convert a file to Base64

Choose File mode, select a local file, and encode it into a downloadable Base64 text file. You can optionally include its detected Data URL prefix.

What is Base64?

Base64 is an encoding scheme that represents bytes with text characters. It is not encryption and does not protect sensitive information; anyone with the encoded value can decode it.

Common uses for Base64

Base64 is commonly used for API payloads, email and MIME content, small embedded resources, data URLs and transferring binary data through text-based formats. Its encoded form is larger than the original bytes.

Base64 Encode / Decode FAQ

Is Base64 encryption?

No. Base64 is an encoding scheme, not encryption. Anyone with the encoded data can decode it.

Is my data uploaded?

No. Text and files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded to WCODX.

Can I encode files?

Yes. File mode can encode a local file to Base64 or decode Base64 back into a downloadable file.

Does Base64 support Unicode text?

Yes. WCODX uses UTF-8-safe browser APIs for Unicode text such as Arabic, Urdu, Chinese and emoji.

Why is Base64 larger than the original file?

Base64 represents binary data with text characters, so its encoded form is roughly one third larger than the original bytes.
