Secure Password Generator
WCODX creates strong random passwords with a configurable length and character set. The password is generated in your browser, so it is not uploaded to WCODX during generation.
How to generate a strong password
- Choose the password length.
- Select the character types accepted by the account.
- Adjust optional exclusions if they make the password easier to read or use.
- Select Generate Password.
- Copy the result and store it securely in a trusted password manager.
What makes a password strong?
Length, randomness and uniqueness are central. Character diversity can expand the possible pool, but replacing a few letters with symbols is not a substitute for a longer random password. Use a different password for every account.
How long should a password be?
Use the longest password the service accepts, while following its rules for permitted characters. There is no single length that guarantees security for every account, so combine a suitable length with random generation and unique passwords.
Password generator privacy
Generation, selection, strength estimation and copying happen in the browser. WCODX does not send generated passwords to a server, put them in a URL, or persist them in local storage, session storage or cookies.
Password Generator FAQ
Is the WCODX Password Generator secure?
The generator uses the browser cryptographic random source, crypto.getRandomValues(), and creates passwords locally. The generated value is not sent to WCODX.
Does WCODX save generated passwords?
No. WCODX does not save generated passwords in local storage, cookies, a database or a password history. Copy or store a password only in a password manager you trust.
What password length should I use?
Use a length appropriate for the account and its policy. Longer passwords generally provide more room for security, especially when they are unique and randomly generated.
Why should I use a different password for every account?
Unique passwords limit the damage if one service is breached. A password manager can help you create and remember a separate password for each account.
Are generated passwords random?
The generator uses cryptographically secure browser randomness and unbiased character selection. It also securely shuffles the final characters.
Should I include symbols in my password?
Symbols can increase the available character pool when a service accepts them. Length and uniqueness matter too, so use the options allowed by the account.
What does password entropy mean?
Entropy is an estimate of the uncertainty in a randomly generated password. It depends on the password length and the effective character pool; it is an estimate, not a guarantee.
Can I generate passwords without similar characters?
Yes. Enable Exclude similar characters to avoid characters such as I, l, 1, O, 0 and o. You can also exclude ambiguous symbols or repeated characters.
