UUID Generator

Generate secure UUID v4 and time-ordered UUID v7 identifiers instantly in your browser.

Private by design. UUIDs are generated locally in your browser and are not sent to WCODX.

What is a UUID?

A UUID means Universally Unique Identifier. It is a 128-bit identifier commonly used in software systems, databases and distributed applications. WCODX generates UUIDs locally without sending the generated values to a server.

How to generate a UUID

Choose UUID v4 or UUID v7, set a quantity from 1 to 1,000, choose the letter case and decide whether to keep hyphens. Select Generate UUID, then copy or download the result as lines or JSON.

UUID v4

UUID v4 is primarily random and is useful when an identifier is needed without embedding creation time. This tool uses the browser's cryptographically secure random source, never Math.random().

UUID v7

UUID v7 includes a Unix timestamp in milliseconds followed by version, variant and cryptographically secure random bits. It is designed to provide rough time ordering, which can be useful for databases and systems where creation-time locality matters. This generator does not claim strict monotonic ordering within the same millisecond.

UUID v4 vs UUID v7

UUID v4Random-based identifierNo creation time embedded
UUID v7Timestamp plus random dataRough time ordering may help locality

Common uses for UUIDs

UUIDs can identify database records, API resources, distributed-system objects, requests and files, or provide session-independent references. They are identifiers, not passwords or authentication secrets.

UUID Generator FAQ

What is a UUID?

A UUID is a 128-bit Universally Unique Identifier commonly used for software records, objects and distributed systems.

Are UUIDs unique?

UUIDs are designed to make collisions extremely unlikely when generated correctly, but no random identifier should be described as mathematically impossible to duplicate.

What is the difference between UUID v4 and UUID v7?

UUID v4 is primarily random. UUID v7 combines a Unix millisecond timestamp with random data, which can provide rough creation-time ordering.

Is UUID v4 random?

UUID v4 is random-based and should use a cryptographically secure browser random source.

Does UUID v7 contain a timestamp?

Yes. UUID v7 stores the Unix timestamp in milliseconds in its first 48 bits.

Can I generate multiple UUIDs?

Yes. Generate from 1 to 1,000 UUIDs at once, then copy or download them as lines or JSON.

Can I use UUIDs as database primary keys?

UUIDs can be useful database identifiers. UUID v7 may offer more useful rough time locality than random v4 values, but database performance depends on the complete schema and workload.

Does WCODX store generated UUIDs?

No. UUIDs are generated locally in your browser and are not sent to or stored by WCODX.

Are UUIDs secure passwords?

No. UUIDs are identifiers, not a substitute for properly generated passwords, API keys or authentication secrets.
