How to beautify JSON

Paste JSON into the input editor, choose 2 spaces, 4 spaces or tabs, then select Beautify JSON. WCODX validates the content first and creates readable output with consistent indentation.

What is a JSON formatter?

A JSON formatter presents valid JSON with consistent whitespace so people can inspect its structure more easily.

What is a JSON beautifier?

A JSON beautifier converts compact or poorly formatted JSON into an indented, readable structure without intentionally changing its underlying data.

What does JSON validation check?

A JSON validator checks standard syntax, including double-quoted strings, quoted object keys, commas, brackets, numbers and the true, false and null values. Comments and JavaScript object notation are not valid JSON.

JSON formatter vs JSON minifier

Beautifying adds indentation and line breaks for people to inspect. A JSON minifier removes unnecessary whitespace to create a smaller valid JSON result for transport or storage.

Sort object keys

The optional key-sorting control recursively sorts object properties alphabetically. It never changes the order of items in arrays, but it does change the order shown in the generated output.

Private browser-based processing

JSON parsing, beautification, validation, file reading, copying and downloading happen locally in your browser. WCODX does not upload or store your JSON content.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this JSON formatter free?

Yes. WCODX JSON Formatter & Validator is free to use in your browser.

Is my JSON uploaded to a server?

No. JSON parsing, formatting, validation and downloads happen locally in your browser.

What is valid JSON?

Valid JSON follows the standard syntax: double-quoted strings, quoted object keys, valid numbers, true, false, null, arrays and objects.

Can JSON contain comments or single quotes?

No. Standard JSON does not allow comments or single-quoted strings.

Does formatting change my JSON data?

Formatting changes whitespace only. Optional key sorting changes object property order but never reorders array items.

Can I upload a JSON file?

Yes. You can upload a readable JSON file up to 5 MB and process it locally in your browser.
