Salary details

Annual assessment period: 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026.
Salary period
Gross employment income before the Employment Income Deduction.

Core scope: South Korean tax-resident employee, employment income only, taxpayer personal deduction, national income tax, Employment Income Tax Credit and local income tax. National Pension, health, long-term care and employment insurance are not included.

South Korea 2026 income-tax rates

The national tax base uses progressive resident rates from 6% to 45%. The calculator applies the shared 2026 brackets and quick-deduction amounts.

How employment income tax is calculated

Annual gross employment income is reduced by the Employment Income Deduction. The taxpayer personal deduction is then subtracted to determine the tax base. National progressive rates are applied, followed by the Employment Income Tax Credit and separate local income tax.

Employment Income Deduction

The deduction uses official total-pay bands and is capped at the statutory maximum. It is not a second tax-rate schedule and is shared by both language versions.

Personal and family deductions

The core estimate applies the taxpayer’s basic personal deduction only. Spouse, children, parents, disability, single-parent and other family-specific deductions require facts that are not collected here.

Local income tax

Local income tax is displayed separately and calculated as the supported percentage of final national income tax. It must not be confused with national income tax.

Social insurance

National Pension, National Health Insurance, Long-Term Care Insurance and Employment Insurance are separate payroll systems. They are not included because this core calculator does not collect the required employment, age, wage-base or eligibility details.

Annual tax vs monthly withholding

Monthly payroll withholding and annual year-end settlement are different processes. This tool estimates annual liability and does not reproduce the monthly withholding table.
